What was the most challenging aspect of designing Myla?

‘The tricky part when designing a software application is to fully understand customer requirements and translate them into really easy-to-use features. So, we conducted different series of user feedback sessions worldwide both before and during the design process. We wanted to be sure that our product would meet, or ideally, go beyond user expectations.

Today's technology enables us to better bridge the gap between the complexity of meeting user requirements and the implementation of easy-to-use software features. MylaTM makes full use of many of these new technologies such as high-end graphics, web and network capabilities.

Another challenging aspect of this project was for the development team to keep up with very recent advances in IT, while still maintaining compliance in the highly demanding and critical business of in vitro diagnostics.'

How do you think Myla will help labs?

‘MylaTM will help in a variety of areas.

One main goal is to help our users recapture time by gaining in efficiency. To do this MylaTM provides real-time visibility of all events for the diagnostic systems connected. She uses an internal push technology to constantly provide workload status updates for each workstation. Critical patient results are also automatically pushed to the attention of the appropriate healthcare professional. The user is always in full control of the workflow.

We have also paid very close attention to the relevance of any information provided to the user. Bringing all the appropriate information to the user when a critical assessment is being made (e.g. specimen validation) was one of our main design goals. During the result validation process, Myla uses our internal push technology along with our existing AESTM expert data to compile all previous patient results and institution trending information together. Microbiologists can then make a rapid assessment of the validity of the current test results to positively impact patient care. In the end, saving patient lives is an objective we have in common with out customers.'
